    WORST VACATION EVER

My wife and I have been to almost every Carribean Country, 49 US States, and 33 countries. We have never written a negative review of a resort. However, this place was not good. We paid for two rooms in the Unique area, one for my wife and me and one for our son. The check in process was good. After checking in we realized the AC in the room was not working properly. We called the front desk to request someone evaluate the system and fix the issue. Someone came out, did some things and said it was fixed. We waited several hours, it was still not cold in the room and the AC was not fixed. So we called back to the front desk and two people were dispatched to our room in an attempt to fix the system. They said it was fixed after doing several things to the unit. After sleeping and waking up in the morning sweating it was still not working. So I walked down to the front desk around 8:00 in the morning and spoke to someone at the front desk. I told her the situation and how on two occasions people came out to fix the issue but it was still not working. I requested a new room but was told we needed to wait until 5:00 PM to get the new room. I paid for two rooms, one for my wife and me, and one for our son who is 21. I think it is ridiculous that we needed to wait all day, on our second day at the resort to get a room with a working AC system. Why do we need to suffer for a whole day for a new room when there were rooms available? Granted, we spend most of the day at the beach & pool areas but we periodically would return to the room. In addition, the television did not work in the 3 rooms we had. Not once during our 4-night stay. I called other resorts in DR during our stay and they said their TV's were operational. That is ridiculous. Called the front desk for an explanation for that and nobody could provide an answer. Basically, told us it is what it is. That is not aligned with our expectations. The resort is nice, beautiful beach and many food options. The service at the restaurants was great, except for the steakhouse, that place was not well run and it took us 2 hours to get our meal after ordering. A few other tables walked out it was so disorganized. Overall, the food was not good at all, there were lots of options, but the quality was subpar to say the least. There is a small casino that was fun. There are shops that have everything one may need. The room was spacious and well appointed, although the TV never worked. We are big sports fans it was playoff hockey and basketball season but we were unable to watch anything. The bathroom and shower was nice. The deck was large and had good views. We were provided a butler based on our room types. My wife drinks vodka and requested a bottle of vodka, small, medium, large, extra large, (any size would be nice). BUT you cannot get a bottle of vodka or anything else except for the bottles of room they give you. Not sure why you can't get the type of drink you want. So the butler brought up plastic cups of water once during our stay. We also asked for ice since the fridge in the room was small and not very cold. It took 7 hours to get the ice and a styrofoam cooler. Patience is a virtue. The palapa's at the beach were plastic and there were gaps in the top so sun could get through making it hard not to get burned. Some notes about the Punta Cana airport. They do not have ramps to the planes, they bus you in and out from the plane. And from our experience they do not have a working sound system. We paid for extra space seats on JetBlue which includes A boarding, I hate not being able to put carry ons in the overhead compartments. When it was getting close to boarding time we made out way to the gate. There was a cluster of people pushing and gathering in line. You could not hear what the gate agents were saying since there was not a working intercom. So as a result everyone just rushes the area to get on a bus and there is no organized way to get there and no way for an ordlerly process. Then you cram onto a bus while the driver manages to avoid planes, three men playing cheap instruments including a cheese grater, people pushing wheel chairs, luggage agents, trucks, and other assorted things en route to the plane. Oh and when you get off the bus, there is a person asking you to show your passport for the fourth time. Complete and utter disgrace. Overall, this was a disaster based on our other vacations. and will never return to this place. We watched several videos on youtube that essentially persuaded us to go to this place. Now I am thinking that the people that made them either worked for the resort or were paid for the sales job.

    Fix Your Food

We have travelled to Punta Cana about 15 times and this experience was the absolute worst. New property is beautiful but we didn’t have a decent meal the entire week. Countless times we just got up and left because the food was just so bad. Burgers always really undercooked. Fries uncooked etc. Some nights service was so slow it was laughable. You would think the steakhouse could cook a steak to order but they couldn’t and we went more than once. Resort has a lot of potential but the food is downright awful. Fruit was never fresh and that’s one thing I always look forward to while on Caribbean. The entertainment team was fantastic but overall such a huge disappointment.

    Great place to visit!!

I booked with Jim O'Neill at TripCentral - he was excellent from beginning to end! I would book through TripCentral again, but only if Jim assisted! Thank you, Jim! Extremely friendly and helpful and tolerated all of my questions. Hadn't done an all inclusive in 15 years, so I had a lot of questions. As for the resort, absolutely beautiful from the moment we walked into the lobby. The entire resort was clean and beautiful - had a spa like feeling to it with the warm colours and landscaping and just the overall vibe. The good: The room was clean and super spacious - housekeeping was great. Beach was nice, bit of seaweed, but it is an ocean The boats in the water were only periodically noisy, but I didn't find it annoying like a lot of people complain about - actually gave for some nice pictures and something to look at vs just the ocean Food at Inari (the Japanese restaurant) at the teppanyaki tables was fun to watch and delicious! Service at the adult pool was great - although there are no swim up bars, the servers come to the pool and serve, so basically the same Happy to have some shade at the ocean and pool areas Room Service - was very good. We actually became friends with Jose and are keeping in touch. He was so nice and wants to learn English :) The not so good: The Teatro - the show Emotions was absolutely horrid, we walked out early and chose to not go to any additional shows Booked the adult only package - however, there were some young crying kids on our floor at the hotel, so that was a bit disappointing Booked a flight package that left early in the morning on departure and early afternoon on the way home - for a higher price (the flight got changed to a later departure both ways - so felt we got screwed on pricing AND had to pay $25/hour at the hotel for a late checkout) We only stayed an extra 2 hours, but still thought that was crappy on the hotels part...and quite frankly, Sunwing too. The food - was okay, but not necessarily the buffet, it wasn't great at all. Wish they actually had a Domincian restaurant so we could try authentic food. It's just Dominican people trying to cook North American food, so it's average. The drinks - were definitely not watered down! Get a double espresso with Gressy! Amazing! Coffee - if you want to take some home, buy it at the airport, it's cheaper! Would go to this resort again and would recommend.

    Very nice Hotel

Extremely large hotel. Nice rooms, great food and great staff. The beach was very beautiful and at the time without seaweed. Lots of party people and there was always something going on in the hotel. Extremely many noisy American guests without behavior.

Lopesan Costa Bavaro - a must see.

Being my first time at Lopesan Costa Bavaro I was very impressed. It has a modern, sophisticated ambience and the staff was great with a couple of exceptions. In particular two of the woman working the register in the duty free shop. Otherwise the staff is friendly and helpful. One that stood out was my butler Victor. He helped me arrange my dinner and spa reservations. In addition, he addressed any concerns I had about the room, and assisted in arranging a taxi to the airport. Seems like an all around great guy and greets you with a smile. The butler comes with a Unique room reservation and I would highly recommend it. Overall my experience from check-in to check-out was fantastic and exactly what I needed in a vacation. I will be back and bring friends/family.
