Worst Resort Experience Ever - DONT STAY

DO NOT STAY HERE I noticed a couple of bad reviews the week leading up to the trip. I should have taken them seriously so I hope this review helps you. My friends literally joked that we were staying at a prison resort when they saw pictures of the fitness center and shower. Positive: 70% of the team was amazing. Nathaly, Anthia, Amber, Miriam, Otis were outstanding. Now for the Nitty Gritty and straight to the point. The pictures look NOTHING like the resort. There is one pool for everyone and I won’t touch on the seaweed issue. Bolongo bay asks everyone to make reservations for breakfast and dinner. One breakfast I called 4 times and the 4th time I said I was calling to give a heads up that we were coming down at 930. She said are you giving me a heads up or making a reservation? When we arrived she approached my partner and I looking for trouble stating “you are calling down for a heads up huh?” and maintained an unpleasant demeanor for the full trip. We paid for all inclusive. During our first meal we were told we cant order an entree if we get protein on a salad. They later rescinded it after we complained. When you order champagne they bring out Cooks. If you haven’t had Cooks, it’s the equivalent Andre. The manager told me he was upgrading our champage for the rest of our stay. We were plesantly surprised when they brought Veuve! Then the manager came out and said if we wanted more we would have to pay. Then he said oh nevermind it’s only for dinner but we are out of Veuve. The last night for dinner when we called to make a reservation they said they had nothing available from 630-930pm. Huh?! Then they called back and said they could squeeze us in at 7. The fitness center: I can’t even describe how horrible it was… The shower, extremely small. My partner literally had to step out to wash his full body. Low quality amentities with no space to put anything in the shower. 15-20 minutes for hot water and bad pressure. I didn’t see ONE maintenance person in the common areas the WHOLE TRIP. The website says the airport is $9/pp it’s $23/pp + bags. I couldn’t get anyone on the phone to call a taxi for us to go to the airport so we called our own. While we were checking out the taxi apparently came and left. The bellman said he didnt see us so we had to wait for another one. As we prepare to head home, we realized we tried to laugh through the trip but there it’s nothing funny about flying away to a “resort” to relax and finding out that it’s not what is advertised. Waste of money and time.

Go some where else, not worth the money

Me and my wife were super excited to go here since we got married in October. We had to delay our honey moon till June due to work reasons. Starting off the flight there wasn’t bad at all. If you rent a car you need to call the place that you rented through. We used dollar thrifty, since they had better prices than hurtz and enterprise. Wasn’t bad overall. Once we got our car we headed to Bolongo Bay. Let’s just say when we got there we thought we were in the wrong place due to this place no accurately showing what the outside of the building looks like. We pulled into the office parking area to check in. The staff at the front desk was nice, she advised us since we paid for the all inclusive that we need to make reservations for dinner and breakfast and Lunch was first come first serve. She advised us to speak to the hostess at igges oasis to do that. Then we were given our all inclusive bracelets that they put on you. We proceeded to our room, the room was extremely small and out dated. The bed was saggy and uncomfortable. The shower had to run for about 30 mins to get any hot water. We paid for a beach front room and we got it. The only issues was that the beach was covered in seaweed. Due to the seaweed sitting in the sun all day it gave off an awful smell. So as soon as you opened the door to the beach an awful smell flooded our room. The resort didn’t attempt to remove the sea weed until the last day we were there. Unfortunately they only had one guy trying to do it with a shovel and a wheel barrel. We can honestly say that we were flabbergasted by how bad the “resort” was, I put resort in air quotes because it wasn’t even close to being a resort. This place felt more like a motel than anything. My wife and I proceeded to iggies oasis to try and make some reservations for dinner. The hostess at the front of the restaurant stated that we could make a reservation for dinner tonight if we wanted. We also made a reservation for the next night for dinner. Skipping forward to 8pm that night we proceeded back up to igges for our scheduled time. Here is a question why would you make a reservation and then have to stand there for 25 mins for a table to open. We both saw about 14 tables open and clean. Yet we still had to wait I guess for a server to become available. I will say the server Suzanne she was outstanding, that was the only night we had her as our waitress. She was very personable, nice and told us that we’re entitled to a bottle of wine and or champagne for every dinner. Unfortunately this would be the only night where we had Suzanne, the next night we had a very unhappy waitress, she was rude and took 45 mins to bring drinks. Our food actually came out before we ever got our first round of drinks. Here is the funny thing you are only allowed one alcoholic drink per guest at a time. Meaning you have to finish your first drink wait another 45 minutes for your waitress to come back to order another drink. I understand this is a business and they are out to make money. But you pay for all inclusive, which means food and drinks. I can wrap my head around having one alcoholic drink at a time I’m fine with that I’m not really a big drinker anyways, but service here is slow they figure if they take super long that you will only want one drink. Which I will say works because we did not want to wait another 45 mins for our server to bring our second round of drinks. The other issue is that the service staff gets 15% no matter how crappy they are. Which I have always tipped more than 15% because I understand it is hard to work in the service industry. However this is complete and total nonsense, that you pay for all of your food and drinks in your package just to find out that the service staff is gonna throttle it by being slow. Best advised if you do stay here don’t pay for all inclusive, and just eat out in town, great restaurant down town where the servers will actually serve you. The gift shop employee was very helpful, this is where you will schedule things you want to do at the resort. She is very nice and it isn’t her fault but all of the things you could do there like sunset cruise. Snorkeling with sea turtles was all canceled due to the resorts’s boat being broke. We had scheduled the sunset cruise and the snorkeling with sea turtles prior to arrival. We were advised by the staff in the gift shop that both activities s were canceled. They did refund us immediately for these events which was nice. I will say if you are going to schedule something through the gift shop do Tim’s tour it is actually really fun. He takes you to the mountain top where you can get a great banana daiquiri. The view of meygens bay is also great up there. Unfortunately Bologno Bay doesn’t offer to schedule this but the food tour called flavors of charrotle Amalie is great and is worth doing. Coral world is extremely fun and worth a trip especially if you swims with the dolphins, sea lions and sharks. Unfortunately blongo bay doesn’t really give you anything to do there. you pretty much have to find things you find interesting. Honestly this resort is awful, they do offer a lot of taxis here but honestly I would just rent a car so you aren’t confined to this property.

    Find another place to stay

Saying this was a worn and tired resort is an understatement. We’ve very flexible when traveling in Tropical environments because we know maintenance is difficult. This resort hasn’t been updated since the 80’s. There is No resemblance to the photos and the beach was almost non existent. We were coming from St John and stayed one night to make an early AM flight the following day. At $450 per night it’s highway robbery. The only positive we’re the friendly local staff.

Nice resort, but needs some work

Someone said you needed your head examined if you didn’t give a 5 rating, but he may have stayed in a different resort. This was our fourth time at Bolongo, and we were disappointed this time. Not only were there little activities, the sailboat also broke down and they cancelled the sunset cruise Pros On nice bay Great food, but fish usually overcooked Very clean rooms Amber, our waitress Not far from town Cons Daily seaweed ocean dump on beach, but this can’t be stopped Most of the beach we remember has been washed away, or covered with seaweed Trees block most ocean views, we were perplexed why they allowed them to grow Iggies, the beach bar, still a decrepit ruin 6 years after a storm Locals sat in the few beach chairs, leaving none for guests Tip is automatic 15%, so none of the staff has any reason to try harder Small things need managing - burned out lights, step ladder left blocking walkway for days, better security, more friendly bartender, clean up Iggie ruins We may go to Bolongo again (if they get rid of the trees), but only if they change the way they are currently run.

    AMAZING. Best vacation ever!

Anyone who gives this place less than 5 stars needs their head examined. The food is PHENOMENAL, and we joked they had Bobby Flay locked up out back. Yep..that good. We did our 10 year vow renewal and didn't need to worry about a thing...all handled, no stress, and the personal service by Jenny and the rest o the staff was amazing. If you are looking for the Ritz...Bolongo is not for you. If you are looking for a laid back, stress free, clean comfortable place that treats you like family...Bolongo is calling your name!
