If you don’t want to be treated like crap, vacation elsewhere
Where do I even start… I haven’t even left the property yet and I couldn’t wait any longer to write this review. This has by far been the WORSE experience I have ever had at a resort. We booked directly through the website and that part was fine. We arrived at the hotel at 10 am. They informed us that the rooms were not ready yet until 3 pm, which was fine and to be expected. At 2:50 pm (keep in mind we checked in at 10 am) I asked the receptionist if the room was ready. She says no because someone checked out late, I asked her what time to anticipate going into our room since we had been there all day, and she says she does know! Wtf?…also keep in mind that we don’t have nah of our luggage so no sun screen, etc. My husband asks again at 3 pm and she still says it’s not ready. Finally at 3:30 we ask for at least our luggage so that we can reapply sunscreen. Another receptionist was there by then and he says “oh your room has been ready, I don’t know why they didn’t tell you”….Also at 10 am I reminded the receptionist that I was here to celebrate my birthday. As we get to the room, there is no happy birthday banner. Seems small but I was expecting at least that. On top of that, the room was DIRTY! Our butler had to call someone in the clean the room!! Today, we took an excursion and we were gone all day. From 7 am. We get back at 6 pm and NO ONE HAS CLEANED OUR ROOM!! THe bar has not been restocked as it was supposed to, nothing. This is has been the worse experience and it’s sucks because it is my birthday. I want to leave early and ask for a refund. This is horrible. If you care about having a good experience, I would NOT recommend this place at all.

Honeymoon may 2023
Our honest review of Dreams Onyx - We travelled in May, from Birmingham UK - On arrival to the hotel first impressions were very relaxed. We checked in at the preferred lounge in the lobby, this did take some time though. We were then shown to our room 5351 - this was overlooking the preferred pool and had a side sea view. Our butler sadly didn’t contact us on the first day, but we contacted him on the second day. Our butlers name was Ely-Jesus he was very attentive and helped us wherever needed. He took us over to breathless a couple of times for meals and made sure we got a seat quickly. Any information we needed he got us very quickly. I’ll give a summary of each part as honestly as I can - Room - the room was absolutely stunning but it was starting to show signs of wear and tear. The desk under the TV had edges missing, some of the furniture was slightly damaged and the grate in the shower had come off and was loose, the rooms were comfortable and we couldn’t smell any damp as others have suggested previously. We weren’t really bothered about the wear and tear but it is worth noting that the rooms could at some point do with a refresh. Food - We personally thought the food was terrific! Especially the French restaurant at breathless. We tried both French restaurants and the one at breathless was miles better and I mean miles! The buffet at breakfast was great serving a wide range of food choices, we really had no complaints. The steak at the strip grill at breathless was amazing but you didn’t get a lot with it and the dining experience felt a bit rushed. The burger bars on the beach were good but I’d expect your burger buns to be a bit stale as they always seemed to be. Pools - during our stay we mostly used the preferred pool but did try the lazy river once.. the lazy river was great but got busy and in our experience it got hard to find floats. The preferred pool was absolutely incredible and we never had problems finding a sun lounger. The only thing I’ll say is that the staff do absolutely nothing about the “no reserving sun loungers policy” and we encountered a really entitled couple putting their belongings on 8 chairs between two of them and then pinching another parasol from elsewhere. But you always get someone who takes the liberty. We cannot speak for the main pool as we didn’t use. The only thing the preferred pool lacked was music during the day, even if it would have been some soft background music that would be nice. The beach - the beach was great, for us it was lovely and quiet plenty of space to walk and take it all in but it wasn’t the crystal clear water and white sands you’d find in bavaro, it’s more like a brown sugar type sand. The seaweed was minimal and the hotel done an amazing job keeping on top of it. Facilities and grounds - the facilities available were excellent as well as the grounds being impeccably kept. You always saw staff out gardening or repairing stuff keeping on top of everything. The sports bar had a really nice vibe as well. We loved the ice cream parlour the ice cream was absolutely amazing! And there is a couple of shops etc on site where you can grab any bits you need (for extortionate prices keep in mind) Drinks - the drinks were incredible! Really well made especially in the preferred lounges and at the preferred pool! Forgive me but I can’t remember the chaps at the pool who fetched the drinks and made them for us but they were great and really made us feel comfortable! The bad bits - well there isn’t a lot of bad stuff, so this will be quick. One big thing is the casino at breathless. We went a couple of nights and every single night they changed the rules on the blackjack table. Even one dealer to the next, I really wouldn’t bother and the only other thing was the excruciating sunburn we both got! I told you there wasn’t a lot of bad! Special mention to Victor! He’s the man that restocked our minibar daily and he was an absolute legend! Always making sure we were happy and couldn’t do enough for us, we gave him a few dollars each day and he made sure we got extras and always had whatever we wanted he really did go above and beyond to make our trip special! Bit of advice as well - in terms of tipping - I’d take lots of singles with you to tip, it will make a difference with some people. Make sure your tipping with your drinks etc but also make sure you tip your cleaners, mini bar restorers, room service people, people who stand in the burger bars all day in the extreme heat flipping burgers they will really appreciate it. There were a couple of people who didn’t seem bothered. I wouldn’t say it made the service 1000x better but they sure did appreciate it! all in all we had a dream honeymoon and wouldn’t Hesitate to go back a second time!

Family fun
We traveled to Dreams Onyx to celebrate graduations, birthdays, and a surprise elopement. We had the BEST time at this resort! All the staff was fantastic, but Francisco was our Butler and was 100% the highlight of the trip! He went above and beyond daily and always made sure we were taken care of. If you travel to the DR and stay here, Francisco is your go to guy! Highly recommend this resort to anyone!

Service 10/10
My husband and I came to dreams to get away from our hectic life, we had a preferred private pool room. The location was amazing, we spent a ton of time in our pool and Bali bed, didn’t really visit the main pool. Lazy river was great and relaxing. The best part of our trip was Nelis and Javier at the preferred pool. They made sure we always had drinks, they were friendly and so so so kind. Nelis is amazing and truly one of a kind, if you visit the preferred pool make sure to connect with her, I’m so happy that we met her, she truly made our trip. Javier was also incredible, he was so sweet, always made sure my husband had a mango smoothie. Both Nelis and Javier made us feel like family, they are the reason we’ll return to dreams!
